Chris
When Chris registered with Bluewater Adult Education he had 4 credits on his transcript. Through the mPLAR process,
he was eligible to earn up to 22 credits; 12 credits at the grade 9/10 level
and 10 credits at the grade 11/12 level. Earning the 12 compulsory grade 9/10
credits involved Chris writing assessments in math, science, Canadian
history and Canadian geography. Due to his previous work experience, Chris was
able to earn his 10 senior mPLAR credits immediately by providing copies of paystubs and
Records of Employment. To complete his OSSD, Chris needed his 4 last
credits, including the Ontario Literacy Course which he completed through an
online summer school course. He also completed 2 cooperative education credits
through his employment, allowing him to register in the Ontario Youth
Apprenticeship Program and begin working towards his apprenticeship as a truck
and coach diesel mechanic. Lastly, Chris completed the grade 12
English credit through the 10-week hybrid night class. In 7 months, he
graduated with his OSSD.
Aisha
Aisha immigrated to Canada with the equivalency of a 4-year Bachelor’s degrees in Business. She also had a transcript
from an Ontario college where she earned a number of credits.
Regardless of her credentials, to gain better
employment, Aisha required the OSSD. Through the mPLAR process,
she was able to earn 26 credits. The successful completion of the Canadian
history and Canadian geography assessment, along with her transcripts of
previous learning experience earned Aisha all 26 credits. Through the
hybrid night class, she completed the Ontario Literacy Course. The final 3
credits were earned through the cooperative education program, in her place of
part-time employment. Within 6 months, Aisha had earned the
OSSD.
Michelle
Michelle registered with Bluewater Adult Education with 4
previously earned credits, making her eligible for 22 credits through mPLAR.
Successfully completing assessments in math, science and Canadian history
earned Michelle 12 junior mPLAR credits.
Life experience such as raising her child, living independently, and past
employment, earned her 10 senior mPLAR credits. Her final 4 credits to earn the OSSD included the
Ontario Literacy Course and the grade 12 college level english she
completed through participation in the hybrid night class; the dual credit
class, Exploring Entrepreneurship, a program in partnership with Georgian College;
and a Designing your Future credit offered in partnership with an Employment
service provider. In less than a year, Michelle graduated with her
OSSD.
